Medicines Waste
Repeat Prescriptions – Only Order What You Need
The NHS in Humber and North Yorkshire spends £332 million a year on medicines – and £26 million is wasted when unwanted repeat prescriptions are returned. These medicines can’t be reused or recycled; they must be destroyed.
How you can help:
• Check before you order – only request what you’re running out of.
• Open your prescription bag – return anything you don’t need before you leave the pharmacy.
• Talk to your pharmacy team – let them know if you’ve stopped taking a medicine.
• Return safely – always bring unused or expired medicines back to the pharmacy, not the bin or sink.
By making these simple changes, you’ll help your NHS, protect the environment, and stay safe.
Check before you order.
